Gulden Mesara

Gulden Mesara is a seasoned communications and public affairs leader with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams. She has held senior leadership roles at Pfizer, Abbott, AbbVie, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and City of Hope, driving impactful strategies across branding, marketing, communications, and public affairs.

During her 14-years at Pfizer, Gulden held local, regional, and global roles spanning marketing, communications, and government affairs. She established the public affairs function in Pfizer Turkey and led regional efforts across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Latin America, Asia, and top emerging markets. At Abbott, she led global public affairs for the pharmaceuticals business and played a key role in the spin-off of AbbVie as a new global biopharmaceutical leader. As Vice President of Global Commercial and Health Communications at AbbVie, she built and led a worldwide public affairs, marketing communications, and patient advocacy team supporting all therapeutic areas and geographies. Gulden later joined Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) as Chief Communications Officer for Walgreens, overseeing U.S. and global communications, including high-profile corporate events. Most recently, she served as Chief
Communications, Marketing, and Culture Officer at City of Hope, the nation’s only health system exclusively focused on cancer research and care, where she led brand transformation and national expansion efforts.
Recognized as a dynamic change agent, Gulden is known for her ability to counsel executive leadership, build strong teams, and shape business strategy to enhance reputation and stakeholder trust. Her achievements have earned her numerous honors, including Marketer of the Year (PM360), Top Women in Retail (Mass Market Retail), Top Women in PR (PRNews), and Top 30 Health Influencers (PRWeek).
Gulden holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, an MS in Public Relations from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, and a BA in Political Sciences from Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey.

With 30 years of communications and public affairs experience in private sector, political, and government settings, she is skilled at building and leading highly effective teams that defend corporate reputation and shape more favorable external operating environments for companies in highly regulated industries.

Nina has experience at large and small companies alike, including time at Pfizer, Sanofi, and AbbVie, as well as Emergent BioSolutions and Indivior. She has overseen numerous successful issues management and corporate reputation campaigns, created new corporate affairs functions, led a company’s Nasdaq listing day strategy, conceived and launched a corporate rebranding, and created the communications strategy for acquisition and integration of a public company.
Prior to working in the private sector, Nina served in the administration of President George W. Bush, working in the White House Coalition Information Center at the outset of the war on terror, and in the Bureau of International Information Programs at the U.S. Department of State. She also worked in the United States Senate and on political campaigns.
She holds a BA in Government and International Relations from the University of Notre Dame and an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago.
